Going Global?

A study of our interconnected world

14-16 Book Website Over £10

Description:

This is a GCSE Geography Toolkit from the Geographical Association exploring the themes of globalisation and interdependence.

The first four lessons build on students’ prior understanding of global issues, stressing the relevance of these issues to their own lives. Students are encouraged to reflect upon and learn about their place in a globalised world, the global division of labour involved in making the goods they buy, and the global impact of the internet.

The next four lessons move on from this personal approach to consider experiences of cultural and economic globalisation in countries at different stages of development. An introduction to the inequalities of world trade is followed by a lesson each on China, the UK and Kenya.

The series of lessons concludes with a synoptic decision-making exercise which widens the area of study to a global scale. This gives students the opportunity to consider the world in 2050: what it is most likely to be like; what they would prefer it to be like; and what they need to do to make their preferred future a reality.

Each lesson is supported by a set of downloadable resources on the GA website including maps, PowerPoints, photo sets, information sheets and activity sheets.
