PARTICIPATE
Global Citizenship through Art and Design
Description:
The aim of the PARTICIPATE wesite is to provide teachers with resources to effectively teach Global Citizenship through Art and Design. It has been developed as a partnership project by Reading International Solidarity Centre (RISC) - a Development Edudation Centre based in Reading - and the October Gallery - a chartity set up in 1979 to promote an understanding and appreciation of contemporary art from all cultures of the world.
Currently the site features Romuald Hazoumé and Julien Singozan from Benin, Nnenna Okore from Nigeria, Huang Zu from China and Hassan Massoudy from Iraq. Artists from New Zealand will also be added. For each artist there is a teacher's pack which explores their work, puts it in the context of their country's culture and history, links it to different aspects of Global Citizenship, and suggests a wide range of classroom activities. There is also an activities section on the website to inspire you with ideas.
Whilst the teachers' packs are targetted around Key Stages 2 and 3 (late primary and early secondary), the activities can be adapted for older and younger students.
All in all, a fabulous, inspirational website!
