Remember Me
Echoes from the Lost Generations
Description:
This website for upper primary and lower secondary from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) explains why the organisation was set up, examines the work it does today and looks at the impact of war on individuals, families, communities and society in general. It is divided into the following sections:
- CWGC Then: the creation of the organisation and the principles of equality on which it is founded
- CWGC Now: its continuing work, remembrance and its relevance today
- Who Cares? the problem of vandalism and its consequences
- Requiem: music motivated by war
- Hitting Home: the impact of war on families and communities
- Truth - the First Casualty: how different media record the same event and the issues this raises
- Matters of Life and Death: using the CWGC database to track the lives of those who died
- One Boy: Assembly presentation for Remembrance.
Curriculum-linked teachers' notes accompany each section providing suggestions for activities and lessons. There are also suggestions within each section for follow up activities.
This is an excellent resource which makes really good use of the CWGC's extensive archives to bring home to learners the reality of war and its impact on ordinary people from around the Commonwealth.
