International Day of the World's Indigenous People: 9 August

An event to celebrate the lives of indigenous populations throughout the world, and to bring attention to the discrimination and loss of rights they often face. 

The website of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues has lots of further information including the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples adopted in September 2007 and an awareness-raising film.
