Sign up to DEA's Global Learning Charter

DEA – the education charity which manages the Global Dimension Website – has developed a Global Learning Charter and we would like to invite your school to sign up.

DEA has developed a  Global Learning Charter  as a way to bring together those who believe that education and learning can help tackle some of the big issues we collectively face such as climate change, intolerance and poverty.

The Charter makes the argument that we can’t just leave government to meet these challenges, or rely on technical fixes. Instead we need a mass campaign of education and citizen involvement, and every institution in society has a part to play in this campaign.

Signatories to the Charter are committing to help people of all ages learn about international poverty, climate change and community cohesion and to help citizens to do something about these challenges.

A whole range of organisations are signing up, and we want teachers and schools to be at the heart of this. You’ll be joined by charities, businesses, trades unions, local authorities, faith groups, arts and culture organisations, youth work bodies and others. A number of high profile organisations have already signed up, including: The Eden ProjectOxfam, the Royal Geographical Society, the Trades Union Congress and the National Youth Agency. (Please note we can’t accept signatories from political groups or from individuals at this time.)

The Charter kicks off a range of work by DEA to raise the profile of global learning, including:

  • A formal launch of the Charter at a reception in the Houses of Parliament in the New Year, to which all signatories will be invited
  • An Early Day Motion in Parliament, to encourage MPs to support global learning
  • Workshops to support signatory organisations’ global learning work
  • Support for signatories to bring global learning to the attention of their elected representatives and general election candidates.
